bio & info

English born / Canadian bred, I currently live in a small town in beautiful North Yorkshire. Words and writing, making things, planning and organizing, researching – especially energy, intent, and the “why” of things – copious note-making, and growing things, are some of the things that make me happy. I’ve been known to rearrange my home and belongings more often than is strictly necessary. My sense of humour is quite dry and irreverent, I’m heavily into sci-fi, I prefer books and movies to social gatherings, and I am infinitely more comfortable behind a camera than in front of it.

Site Purpose and Mission

Over the years I’ve been on the internet, I began with Yahoo Geocities pages. I’ve had a Blogger site, and then for the past few years my home has been here on WordPress.

In the spirit of fresh starts, I’ve stripped the articles back to virtually a blank canvas. If everything goes to plan I will have a lot more content here in the next few weeks.

The content will include what I call my ‘portable office’, planning / Filofax / journal things and streamlining the way I work / bags, camping & prepping, and travel gear / crafting projects / writing projects / growing (or failing at growing) things in our small patio (and greenhouse) garden / and sometimes I get things stuck in my head I have to share to see what others think. Eco alternatives will most likely feature heavily as well.

Site Revenue

As far as possible, I have chosen to not run ads through my site. I hate them on other people’s sites; and especially those pop-up windows when I’m in the middle of reading something, so I won’t have any of that here in my space.

However, I have yet to figure out how to live on fresh air alone, so while I am unable to do that I have affiliate links on the tried & liked page. In some way I earn a little percentage every time you click through and buy something. I won’t ever suggest something I don’t know that I actually like, and I will always try to give my reasons for suggesting something. I appreciate it if you feel moved to support me and this site in this way, but before you do, I am more than happy if you prefer to support your local independent traders if you can.

Other than that, the option is there to drop me a little cash via PayPal so you can be an enabler and feed my caffeine addiction. (fyi: the wording “buy me a coffee” is a suggestion, not a command.. although that intent may vary according to how much caffeine I have in my system at any given time..)

Disclaimer

Everything on this site is my work and my personal opinion unless otherwise stated. I’m sharing it with the interwebs as I would a friend who’s come over for a coffee; take me as you find me, and prepare yourself for it to be strong and unapologetic at times.
I give references where they are warranted, and I give them to the best of my ability and knowledge. I don’t claim I have the absolute truth, and I don’t speak for anyone else.

People who read this site and all other works I have out in circulation elsewhere (linked where possible in my portfolio page), are advised to use their own judgement and get expert advice if needed.  I cannot and will not be held responsible for others’ interpretations of things I say, nor do I have any ‘expert’ advice. If I was to offer one piece of advice though, it would be to question everything, and also look for answers inside yourself.

I am open for debate but as I am always vigilant about not forcing my opinion on anyone, I appreciate and expect the same courtesy from others.
